OUR PHILOSOPHY

This is who we are and what we do

“If you stop striving for improvement, you have stopped being good.”

At PARATEC, everything revolves around parachute technology. We are skydivers ourselves, and for us it’s normal to offer our customers the best possible quality, functionality, and design. Since we started our business in a garage in 1989, our goal has been to build the best parachute systems and components defined by custom solutions with a timeless, sophisticated design and functionality that sets standards while being safe and providing enjoyment.

At Paratec, technology is purpose-driven and will never be marketing-oriented. For us, technology is simply a tool for the purpose of delivering the safest and most advanced parachute components you can buy.
That’s why we design, engineer, and produce literally every component very carefully, with the goal that it must be in a league of its own for the given application.

And there’s something else: the desire to create something extraordinary, something that is second to none. Whether it’s a rig, a canopy, or some other selected component, we always strive to make the product the benchmark in its field.

WHO AND WHAT ARE WE?

Hightech with conviction

Paratec GmbH has its roots in Saarland, a region that has always been closely associated with skydiving.

The company’s history began in 1989, when Eva and Gerd Brandecker founded Paratec GmbH. Originally started under the name Paratex, they began producing accessories for skydiving in a garage in Wallerfangen. Passionate about the sport and flying, they both dedicated themselves to the production of harnesses and other accessories. The company initially employed five people and produced on an area of 150 square meters.

Over the years, Paratec GmbH grew continuously. In 1995, Stefan Ertler joined the company as a product developer and brought fresh ideas and designs, such as the Speed 2000 and the Next harness. With his international contacts, he helped open up new markets and establish cooperations. Paratec GmbH dared to be different and stand out from the crowd.

In 2000, the company received a significant order from the German Armed Forces to manufacture new parachute systems for training and education. At the same time, the Next harness and the Speed 2000 were successfully approved for the international market. This marked an important milestone in the company’s history.

In 2007, Paratec GmbH said goodbye to its garage and moved to a new 1500 square meter building at the airfield in Saarlouis-Düren. The move brought more employees and motivated the company to handle the growing orders from the sports and military sectors.

In 2012, Paratec GmbH signed a cooperation agreement with the Brazilian company Vertical do Ponto. This partnership was intended to further advance the market presence of both companies in the development and manufacture of parachutes.

In 2017, Eva Brandecker decided to retire from the company and enjoy her new phase of life. Stefan Ertler, on the other hand, still had some ideas and remained active. Paratec GmbH invested in modern 3D design and simulation software as well as a new laser cutting system to further advance its product development and manufacturing. Jens Klaudtky joined the company, bringing his extensive experience from the world of round canopy parachutes.

In 2022, Paratec GmbH ventured across the Atlantic and founded Paratec North America Inc. based in Pinebluff, North Carolina. At the same time, the company acquired National Parachute, Inc. and thereby expanded its portfolio and market presence.

Paratec GmbH also developed applications for space travel in cooperation with renowned technology partners such as Sceye, ETH Zurich and Harvard University. Their backup systems for stratospheric balloons and rockets have been successfully tested and ensure safe retrieval of equipment from the near-earth environment.

In 2023, Paratec GmbH opened a new location in Dresden. In cooperation with Ralf Homuth, the owner of the Dresden Parachute Shop, they concentrated their competences under the umbrella of Paratec GmbH. Dresden has been developed into a center of competence for pilot parachutes, training and further education courses are held here, and a large part of the Paratec Safety product range is manufactured there. The site offers an area of 1000 square meters and is located at Straße des 17. Juni, No. 4.

This is how Paratec GmbH has developed from its humble beginnings in a garage into an internationally active company that manufactures high-quality skydiving equipment and drives innovation in the field of skydiving.
